At a Glance

Session 2

Components of Consent (pt. 1)

Students will begin to learn the different components of practicing consent and the various skills required, on all sides of an interaction. Students will be challenged to think about the barriers to practicing consent, too.

Topics:

How do you know what you want? How do you know if you’re ok with something?

What makes asking hard? Why can’t we make assumptions?

What is the role of nonverbal cues?

“Just say no”: What myths have we been told about “saying no”? What makes saying no hard? How can we make saying no easier?

Session 1

Introduction to Bodily Autonomy and Consent

Students will learn that consent is about more than “getting a yes.” Students will be guided through mindfulness exercises, activities, and conversation that engages them to, not only think about but feel, the importance of respecting others’ boundaries.

Topics:

What is consent?

What is domain/bodily autonomy?

What are boundaries?

Session 3

Components of Consent (pt. 2)

Students will continue to learn the components of consent and have the opportunity to practice some of the skills they’ve learned.

Topics:

Ongoing consent practice: checking-in.

Hearing no: What should you do? What shouldn’t you do?

Accountability: What to do when you mess up?

“Saying no/hearing no” practice. Collaboration practice.

Session 4

Social Dynamics

Students will be guided in a conversation on how social dynamics like age, authority, popularity, gender, etc. impact consent in our world today.

Topics:

How do social dynamics and power dynamics impact consent?

What can you do when these dynamics are playing a role in your decision-making? In your asking?

Session 5

Wrap-Up + Q&A

Students will have the opportunity to ask any outstanding questions they have.
